INSIGHTS/ The Expert: Michael Engels (BCG) - Hiring your Team

Michael has more than 9 years of experience within consulting and the tech industry. He is a core member of BCG’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice area, regularly consulting senior leaders on their most strategic projects.

How do you write a job description that appeals to the right candidate? What do you need to focus on when reviewing applicants? How do you run an interview process and who do you involve? What to look out for when selecting candidates?

Attracting top talent takes more than just posting a job spec on LinkedIn.

Bringing on board your first 10- 15 hires requires careful preparation and a well thought-through process.

  • What business problem is being solved (or opportunity being capitalized upon) with this/these position(s)?

  • How many hires are needed?

  • What are their key responsibilities?

  • Is this an onsite or offsite role?

  • etc.

Michael holds a PhD from TU Dortmund and focused in his research on big data-driven analysis of large social networks. In addition, Michael holds a Bachelor's degree from the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management and a Master's degree from the LSE—London School of Economics and Political Science. Michael is also a Certified Professional SCRUM Product Owner (PSPO) skilled in agile ways of working.

Michael also founded an artificial intelligence start-up focusing on delivering an AI analytics platform for network intelligence and natural language processing.
