Meet the LifeScience ORG CEO

Jérome Marzinski - OxSonics Therapeutics

What called you to lead?

Growing up, my father was a chemical engineer in the plastics industry. My interest in the life sciences started at an early age because of frequent and lively discussions about science at home.

Leaving a 20-year career in the financial sector to work in the life sciences wasn't triggered by a specific event but rather by profound introspection. I had a successful and dynamic career, but often questioned the significance of my work and wondered if what I was doing fulfilled my purpose in life. I concluded that the life sciences offer a more meaningful way to contribute to society, by helping patients and alleviating global healthcare challenges.

While this was a significant decision, it wasn't a difficult one. I am curious by nature, enjoy exploring different topics, and embrace lifelong learning. The change of direction into the life sciences, allowed me to learn about a fascinating industry.

I also despise being in my comfort zone. I thrive on pushing boundaries, facing new challenges, and exploring new ways of thinking and creative techniques to solve problems.

Role models in my early career profoundly influenced this mindset, which I've sought to apply not only to myself but also to the teams I've managed throughout my career. Two of my bosses at Sun Microsystems always believed in my potential and supported me in leading cross-functional and international teams, regardless of my young age.
