Amir Hefni - Resolution Therapeutics
What called you to lead?
Seeing the impact my father had as a doctor – he made a difference in people’s lives.
When I think about what called me to lead, I always return to my father. His journey shaped mine in ways I couldn’t have understood as a child, but it’s clear to me now.
My father worked tirelessly to put himself through medical school. He became a consultant at a young age, dedicating his career to research and patient care. Growing up, I saw the impact he had firsthand – the numerous thank-you notes from patients. That stuck with me – it was about the difference he had made in someone’s life.
That sense of purpose drove me. In addition, the science behind it really intrigued me. How do medicines work? That curiosity led me to study pharmacology and later pursue a PhD in immuno-pharmacology.
I really enjoyed immersing myself in science, but as my PhD progressed, I realised I wanted to move beyond the lab, to understand the journey from drug discovery to treating a patient. That decision led me into management consulting and, later, into the pharmaceutical industry, where I gained experience across medical, commercial and strategy roles. It also allowed me to take on leadership roles with increasing responsibilities across different geographies.
I am passionate about bringing transformative therapies to patients and building agile teams with a shared purpose. My career took me from the UK to the US, Sweden, and Switzerland, always with the same goal: how do we take groundbreaking science and turn it into medicines to improve lives?
That drive eventually brought me to Resolution Therapeutics. When I first learned about the work being done – pioneering regenerative macrophage therapy to transform outcomes for patients with inflammatory and fibrotic diseases – it felt like the culmination of everything I had been working towards. The opportunity to develop transformative medicines, work with a very talented and agile team, and lead an organisation with a bold vision - this really excited me.
